Gerd Leonhard and the Future of Music

Here are two great videos by media futurist Gerd Leonhard. In them he discusses the future of music and what we, as musicians, will do during this historic transition period. Technology has advanced to the point where music can no longer just be bought and sold “as a product,” but literally be obtained by anyone with an internet connection.
The first video is a quick summary of what Gerd describes as “music like water,” in other words, music as a utility. It is something that we will pay a small amount of money for, in order to have it flow into our ears. However, like water, we are more than happy at times to pay a premium for it under certain circumstances.
The second video is a full presentation that goes in depth on the subject. I encourage you to watch this full version as it has many useful points on the ever changing world of the music business. It looks into how people are listening to music, where they find new music and how musicians are monetizing their art.
